Wild Ginger Boutique CoRachel Shepherd
I used to make bead jewellery as a teenager but stopped as I got older. Then 3 years ago I took a year out from my job in the NHS and started making jewellery again, but this time using metals and enamels and teaching myself a whole lot of techniques by watching videos on YouTube! I made a few sales to friends and family and then discovered Etsy. I loved making jewellery and selling it so much that I never returned to my old job and have been running Wild Ginger ever since.
My jewellery is hand-made and is inspired by my love of nature and colour. It’s fun and fresh whilst still being delicate and stylish. My range includes necklaces, earrings (both dangle and studs), bracelets and rings based on leaves, flowers, animals, science, weather and astronomy. I like using bright colours. I use 14k gold, 925 sterling silver, and gold-plated or silver-plated brass. Some include gemstones, pearls, coloured glass or enamel. All jewellery is hypoallergenic and does not contain nickel, lead or zinc. Just to make sure I try out all new creations on myself to ensure they’re up to the best standards.
Prices range from £6 to £30 and I have kept most of my prices within the lower range. This is intentional as I want my customers to feel they can buy my work as a treat for themselves, or as a quality but affordable present for a friend or family member.
I intend my brand to add a bit of fun to people’s lives. As someone who has experienced depression in the past, I like to advocate for positive mental health whilst acknowledging that life can be tough sometimes. I feel an appreciation of nature and consciously looking for the things in life that bring us joy can improve our own and other’s lives. My jewellery makes me happy and smile, and I hope it does that for other people too.
