After 10 years teaching Art at a college, I decided I wanted a change from working for someone else, so I launched my business Paperbased. Paperbased has given me the opportunity to create a space where I can teach and continue to work as an artist. I’m a mum to two wonderful children and wanted to do something that would fit around family life and which would feel more personal. I’m a qualified lecturer in Fine Art and I have a degree in Education and a masters in Fine Art.
I work predominantly with paper, using this material to make paper sculptures and artist books in my main practice. Through Paperbased, I make and sell a range of handmade gifts, including notebooks, badges, papercut artwork, tunnel books, paper flowers, paper wreaths, cards and DIY kits for people to make at home.
I’m fascinated with human nature, conversations, and the everyday, I like to make work that draws the viewer in to find the small details within the pieces I create. I have a passion for paper and all that can be done with it, and this can be seen in the work I make.
