A bit about my product range
I create bold and colourful woodcut, linocut, stamp and screen prints. I hand-print all my work onto paper, fabric and laser-cut MDF to make framed prints, free standing and wall hanging artwork and homewares such as lampshades and cushions.
I started an Etsy shop because…
For me Etsy is an online gallery to exhibit my work and it enables any potential customers I meet at fairs to easily come back and buy from me at a later date should they wish to.
I feel inspired by…
I am inspired by what I see around me, my local community, the park, local buildings, changing seasons; and at home, my cats, the toys and books, some ordinary household items, a vase of flowers or an old ornament.
When I’m making, I like to listen to…
Usually Radio 4 and I tend to listen to the dramas and I have to say it’s the crime dramas I love the most. I am also addicted to The Archers.
My favourite product to make is…
I don’t have a favourite product as such as I really love making all of my work but my favourite part of making is the experimental stage at the beginning when I am trying out ideas for a new piece of work. I develop my ideas using drawing and collage, simplifying and arranging the shapes, forms and patterns.
I like to experiment with arranging and re-arranging each individually hand-cut piece of wood, lino, etc. Building up layers and combining print methods depending on the surface I am working onto. Having fun with various colour combinations to produce different designs for each print. I aim to keep this creative, experimental aspect of my work as much as possible, so many of my prints are ‘one off’ such as the lampshades and some of the free-standing laser cut printed pieces.
My plans for the future are…
To develop my print work in a couple of directions. To continue to teach printmaking which I really enjoy and to continue to learn and develop new skills and techniques.
